The Johnson Tile Studio

AI assisted visualizations by H & R Johnson (India)

One of the main drawbacks for consumers looking to purchase tiles for their interior spaces, is the inability to visualize how the final product will look in the chosen space. This imagination is nurtured in architects, artists and designers, but the average consumer would struggle to foresee what a purchase for an interior product would feel like, until the time of its application. This creates an obvious gap, since there is a possibility it could lead to customers being unhappy with the final product.

In order to overcome this, H & R Johnson (India) has deployed an advanced Artificial Intelligence enabled online tile application and visualization tool, which uses AR (augmented reality) to simulate a variety of tile layouts and patterns in one’s own space. Named Floori, this visualizer provides an enhanced experience for customers both online and offline, and is available free of cost on H & R Johnson (India)’s web browser – with no need to download any app or external software – try it here.

The process is simple:

  • Snap a photo: Use your mobile phone to capture an image of the space you wish to redesign.
  • Choose a Product: Access the visualizer through the H & R Johnson (India) website and choose the required product from the broad range available.
  • See it in the Room: The AI software will study the photo and understand its layout, and will then be able to change the floor, wall or other tiles.

Once the image is analyzed by the AI algorithm, it will represent the identified walls and tiles using a small “white ball,” which can be selected by the user. Once it is selected, another product can be chosen from the catalogue, which can then be simulated in the environment. By cycling through the variety of options, consumers can have a full representation of their spaces.

Not only is the tool useful for architects and designers, but care has been taken by H & R Johnson (India) to ensure that the average citizen would be able to access this information at their fingertips, making this one of the most efficient and inclusive initiatives by the company.

Frequently Asked Questions:

01. Can I simulate images taken from the pool or outside the house?

Now, the Artificial Intelligence analysis capacity remains indoors. Pool or outdoor images only work if they are standard simulator environments.

02. Does the simulator have all the products of floors and coatings registered?

No, however it has almost all the products from the largest manufacturers. Some products are not registered due to lack of texture or face images, incompatibility with the simulator, or minor adjustments to the images of the products.

03. What environment image formats can I use for the simulator?

Compatible image formats include .PNG and . JPEG.

04. Are 3D video renders possible?

Currently, it is only possible to upload images in 2D.

05. After applying the product to the image, is it possible to remove it?

After applying the product, it cannot be removed, and you will have to reupload the photo. However, we are preparing a new update in the simulator that will allow the removal of products applied in the environment.

06. The client reported that artificial intelligence did not perfectly detect the floor and/or wall.

Ask the customer to take another photo where the lighting is good, the photo is stable and has an open angle in which you can clearly see the wall and floor⊗
